A little bit about Shmick (Michael Motteram-Smith)
With a passion for creating art that both stimulates and inspires, Shmick has over ten years’ experience working in the creative arts industry, largely across Queensland and New South Wales. Striving to create art that illuminates spaces and places, and encourages audiences to connect deeply.
I am a multidisciplinary graphic and visual artist from the Northern Rivers NSW, proficient in a range of mediums including aerosol, ink, acrylic and brush. An Alumnus of the CATC Design School Gold Coast, I have a strong background in creative processes, including graphic design, creative problem solving and working to a design brief.
Predominantly my work encompasses environmental themes and messages. I am driven to create art inspired by the coastline, rainforest, native animals and stunning surrounds. My portfolio largely consists of dreamscape compositions, expressionism, while incorporating a delicate balance of surrealism and realism.
To date I have painted across a number of public sites in South East Queensland and Northern NSW, including public buildings, walls, schools, hospitals and private enterprises. I thrive on collaborating with clients and project stakeholders to deliver a result that is widely appreciated. I always aim to instil a sense of community ownership with the pieces I create and leave behind, and hope my work is cherished by generations to come.
